The focus is on post-documentary strategies and research, with the goal of getting you a solid authorial position in your field of interest and enabling you to operate in an international ecosystem.

The languages, skills and exercises you will cover during the master’s program are designed to provide you with a solid conceptual framework. They will help you develop flexible skills and methods that are adaptable depending on your context. In this way, the course turns out to be highly customizable in its themes and their application, both for visual creation and for presentation and dissemination.

Course Details.

The course provides theoretical skills and practices necessary for the approach of contemporary photography strategies, with a focus on themes and methodologies connected to Post-Photography, considering the photographic image in an altered, modified, transcendent state.
Our times are based on image consumption and production, and the images created in our times increasingly mirror the complexity of our contemporary multi-layered society.
Hence the idea of transmediality, a multidisciplinary, multimedia approach to the photographic image, which enables the creation of augmented, expanded visual experiences.
Such approaches are particularly interesting when directed towards post-documentary practices – one of the focuses of the course – consistent with FSM’s tradition and the potential offered by the host context, Florence and Tuscany.

The purpose of the course is the creation and completion of a project: photographic, editorial or in an exhibition context. The conceptual core of this project proposal will be the object and requirement of selection for access to the course. The teachings and modules to be followed along the path are designed to transmit and consolidate the skills necessary for the realization of the project itself, in order to possess a complete and self-sufficient authorial position.

The course starts in January 2025 and ends in November 2025 with the final exhibition.

Classes are held mainly online for two weekends a month or midweek in the evening hours. International in-person seminars, lectures and workshops are scheduled.

The main focuses of the course are two macro themes that will be addressed during the master’s program: Transmedia Narratives and Impact/Circulation.
Transmedia Narratives is a module in which, through intensive and regular meetings, the candidates’ project is defined and its implementation is guided. Topics such as Post-Photography, Automated Image, Post-Documentary will be addressed.
Impact/Circulation is a module that focuses on the impact of the project, its circulation, communication and relationship with the public/audience. Topics such as Visual Literacy, Transmedia Communication, Selfpromotion Strategies will be addressed.
