Four photographers/faculty members of Fondazione Studio Marangoni – Martino Marangoni, Bärbel Reinhard, Daniela Tartaglia and Giuseppe Toscano – have accompanied the process of transforming the residential building erected at the turn of the 20th century into a modern research center. For a number of years, they have set the progress of the work, from structural works in 2021 to completion in 2023 to the subsequent move in the spring of 2024. Since then, the Photo Library, some sections of the Library (including the “Photography” section), the Lise Meitner “Coded Objects” research group and the “Ethico-Aesthetics of the Visual” research group have their new home at 13 Via Modena.
The online exhibition presents a selection of these photographs, which return four different ways of looking at the building in transformation. The wide variety of images documents the different stages of the renovation, but more importantly, they represent a moment of artistic reflection around the construction site. For the photographers, the construction site became a kind of sounding board whose vibrations they explored and captured with their cameras. The project is a collaboration between the Institute and Fondazione Studio Marangoni.
