The Architectural Photography course is a training designed to deepen the techniques and skills needed to represent architectural spaces.

The course consists of a series of lectures covering both the technical aspects of shooting and equipment, as well as theoretical aspects related to the history of photography and the representation of architecture in its social dimension, both in relation to the individual and to the urban public space.

The course will explore photographic composition techniques to enhance the geometries, volumes and proportions of architectural spaces. Students will learn how to choose the best angles to enhance structures, taking into account the balance between full and empty and the dialogue between architecture and the surrounding urban or natural landscape.

Target

The Architectural Photography course is designed for those who want to work with architectural companies, businesses and clients, managing relationships with clients, agencies and creative directors to the best of their ability. You will acquire the skills necessary to develop photographic projects that meet technical and stylistic demands while maintaining a personal and distinctive vision.

Admission

The Architecture Photography Course is suitable for those with a minimum of basic analog or digital camera knowledge; there are no additional entry requirements to enroll in this course.

Course Details.

The architectural photography course aims to develop the ability to combine one’s aesthetic vision with professional demands while maintaining a distinctive and consistent style.

You will learn the use of photographic equipment and post-production techniques specific to architectural photography to best enhance the details and geometries of spaces. You will delve into light management techniques, as well as composition rules, to make images that enhance architectural forms and spaces in a balanced way.

The course is conducted in a blended mode with in-person classes on weekends and midweek online classes.

The course syllabus includes lectures alongside intensive workshops and collaborations with partners, as well as times to review papers with the instructor.

Each student will have the opportunity to use professional equipment provided by the school.

Each student has access to the school’s labs and library during office hours.

Shooting techniques

Exploration of fundamental techniques for obtaining professional architectural images, with attention to framing, perspective, and lighting.

Technical equipment

A hands-on class to understand the use of the most common equipment in architectural photography, such as cameras, lenses and accessories.

The View Camera: Decentering and tilt-shift

Insight into the use of the view camera and its advanced features to correct perspective distortions and obtain technically perfect images.

History of architectural photography

Introduction to the history and evolution of photography in architecture, with a focus on how images have influenced the perception of built spaces.

Shooting: Outdoor shots

Hands-on session in urban landscape photography, with tips on how make the most of the light. Focus on artistic and technical interpretation of architectural works through the photographic lens.

Postproduction

Introduction to postproduction techniques to optimize images and enhance architectural details.

Architects Convention

Studio Marangoni has entered into an agreement with the Foundation Order of Architects of Florence that allows access to the course at a 10 percent discount.
