For over 30 years, Studio Marangoni, based in Florence, has been a leader in Italy and Europe in education and dissemination of photographic culture.
Since its beginning, Studio Marangoni has always combined its educational offering with activities in the exhibition and publication field. Studio Marangoni is distinguished by its unique teaching method that combines artistic and professional training and follows the student in every aspect.
IFC – Initiatives of Contemporary Photography was founded in June 2023, by a group of faculty and employees of Fondazione Studio Marangoni, with the aim of launching a new educational project. The mission of the new corporation is to confirm and enhance Studio Marangoni’s identity as a hub for international photography students, professionals and artists.

1980S
Studio Marangoni, founded in the late 1980s as a photography school for American students, became a center for contemporary photography of excellence, offering a broad program of cultural activities, from seminars and lectures with international photographers, to a program of photography courses at all levels.
1991
In 1991, the Three-Year Course in Photography was founded, a course that through authorial and technical teaching, enables young photographers to confront themselves at the highest levels in both commercial and artistic spheres, thanks to a profound work in structuring and experimenting with their visual language.
1992
In 1992, with the support of Kodak Italia and prominent figures in Italian photographic culture, including Gabriele Basilico and George Tatge, Fondazione Studio Marangoni was created, recognized by decree of the Ministry of Interior in 1994 and carried on the school’s educational activities for many years.
2004
In 2004, the Foundation acquired a new space next to the historic headquarters, adding new classrooms, a dedicated library and an 80-square-meter exhibition space. The fsmgallery has hosted numerous international photography exhibitions and presentations, making the gallery a landmark in the Italian exhibition scene.
